How to use parcel lockers?
A parcel locker is an automated device (terminal) designed for receiving, sending, storing, delivering, and collecting postal items, excluding postal money transfers. Parcel lockers are an alternative method for delivering postal items (weighing up to 20 kg), allowing recipients to collect their parcels independently without the involvement of postal staff. Parcel lockers are located in high-traffic areas (shopping centers, post offices, supermarkets, etc.) with convenient hours of operation, allowing customers to collect their parcels at a time that suits them, including on weekends.
Across Kazakhstan, there are 151 parcel lockers of Kazpost JSC, located in cities of republican significance, as well as in regional and district centers.
Once the courier places the parcel into the parcel locker, the customer receives an SMS with a link to collect the parcel. The customer goes to the parcel locker, opens the link on their mobile phone, then presses the ‘Open locker’ button and scans the QR code on the locker using their phone’s camera. The corresponding locker compartment then opens automatically. The customer retrieves their parcel and closes the compartment door.
How to collect and send a parcel at a parcel supermarket?
A parcel supermarket is a self-service format divided into two zones: one for receiving and one for sending postal items within Kazakhstan.
To receive a parcel, the customer enters either the parcel’s postal registration number (an alphanumeric ID barcode) or their mobile phone number on the terminal in the parcel supermarket.
Once the terminal finds the requested postal item in the system, it prints a ticket showing the row and compartment number where the parcel is located. The customer then goes to the hall, finds the correct row and compartment, and retrieves their postal item.
At the checkout at the exit of the parcel supermarket, the customer gives the postal item and an ID to the postal operator, who checks the parcel details, confirms any cash-on-delivery payment, and records the delivery.
Customers can also use the parcel supermarket to send parcels on their own to any location within Kazakhstan. To send a parcel, the customer buys a corrugated box, which includes the shipping cost within Kazakhstan and comes with an alphanumeric identification barcode. After packing the parcel in the designated area, the customer proceeds to the dispatch terminal, presses ‘Send’, scans the barcode on the box, presses ‘Send’ again, and retains the ticket issued by the terminal. After completing all the steps, the parcel must be placed on the shelf for further transportation.
For how long can a postal item be kept at a post office, parcel locker, or parcel supermarket?
Parcels are kept at the post office or parcel supermarket for 30 calendar days. The first 14 days are free, and after that, a storage fee of KZT 400 per day is charged. Once the storage period ends, the parcel is sent back to the sender at the return address.
Small packages are kept at the post office or parcel supermarket for 45 calendar days. No fee is charged for storing small packages. Once 45 days have passed, the small package is sent back to the sender at the return address.
Parcels in a parcel locker are kept for 3 calendar days at no cost. After the storage period expires, the parcel from the locker is forwarded to the nearest post office or parcel supermarket for storage.
How to track the delivery of a parcel or letter?
The alphanumeric identification barcode, also known as the postal registration number, is a unique identifier used to track a parcel or letter and find out its current location. Parcels or letters can be tracked on the Kazpost JSC website: https://qazpost.kz/. The main benefit of the service is that by entering the alphanumeric identification barcode, the customer can track every stage of the parcel’s transit and delivery.
The tracking service also enables customers to monitor the status of a parcel or letter. Upon subscription, the tracking service notifies the user of any changes in the status and location of their postal item through email, Telegram, and SMS.
